State BBQ Championships ‘Firin’ Up the Fox’ in Kane County
A state-championship BBQ contest with a “People’s Choice” winner and more than $10,000 in cash and prizes is coming July 11-13 to Kane County.
Shodeen’s Firin’ Up the Fox BBQ Contest and Festival is a Kansas City BBQ Society-sanctioned event held to raise money for LivingWell Cancer Resource Center in Geneva.
“We are an Illinois State Championship, and the Official BBQ Contest & Festival of Kane County,” organizers said in a press release.
The third annual event includes a KCBS BBQ Contest July 11–12, Amateur Contest July 13, and Kids Q on July 13. A family Pig Roast takes place Friday night, July 11, and a People’s Choice competition Saturday, July 12, at lunch time.
The event features BBQ vendors, a carnival, a car show, live music and a “Food Truck Rally” on Sunday.
The group holds BBQ education classes in the fall and spring, including classes on becoming a judge, “which allow you to be a judge at our contests listed above,” the press release says. BBQ Cooking classes target the backyard cook as well as the cook thinking about competing.
