UPDATE: Sycamore Man Dies After Motorcycles Crash Near Hampshire

One of two motorcyclists who crashed on Friday near Hampshire has died, the Kane County Sheriff’s Office reports.

According to a Tuesday, Aug. 5, release, Kane County detectives were notified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office that John Beach, 22, of Sycamore died at about 2:50 a.m. Aug. 3 from injuries received when two motorcycles — a 2006 Suzuki driven by Benjamin Fletcher, 26, of Elgin and a 2006 Suzuki driven by Beach — collided “for unknown reasons” early Friday morning on Allen Road east of Walk Road in unincorporated Hampshire Township.

Fletcher also suffered “life-threatening injuries” in the Aug. 1 crash, reports said.

Fletcher and Beach were transported to Presence St. Joseph’s Hospital in Elgin, then flown to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

Fletcher was charged with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. He was released on an I-bond at St. Joseph’s prior to being flown to Lutheran General Hospital.

As of Friday, Beach had not been charged with any crime. The crash remains under investigation by Sheriff’s Office investigators and members of the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team.

“It does appear alcohol played a role in this, and neither person was wearing a helmet,” Undersheriff Pat Gengler said in the original press release. “No other persons were on the motorcycles at the time of the crash.”
