The village of East Dundee announced that Monday, Aug.18, 2014, will be officially recognized as Doederlein Day . The village will be presenting the recognition through proclamation on Monday, Aug. 18, at the regularly scheduled board meeting.

DeLoris Doederlein served as state representative from 1986-1992. She earned a postgraduate degree from Valparaiso University. Through the years, DeLoris served as a teacher within the Community School District #300. Her late husband, Fred Doederlein, was the owner and operator of the Doederlein Lumber Company in East Dundee.

Through a generous donation of “the warehouse,” additional parking was added to Meier Street. Through a fifteen year lease with the Village of East Dundee, the large yellow buildings once located to the west of the bike path were recently demolished to make improvements to the downtown area. The bike path can now be widened and improved, and with the space that Doederlein Lumber once occupied additional parking can be added.

In the late ’80s, the Doederlein family was also instrumental in the construction of the Depot, located at 319 North River Street, East Dundee.

“DeLoris and her family have been such an important part of promoting East Dundee and the area.” said Lael Miller, village president. “It only seems fitting that we, as a community, we recognize the Doederlein family. DeLoris is one of our biggest cheerleaders in the changes and improvements we have been making to put East Dundee on the map.”
