Shortly after Tom Linder retired as a sergeant with the Elgin Police Department, he suffered an illness that has caused financial challenges for his family.
Linder has spent much of his life helping others, not just during his law enforcement career, but through personal missions he undertook with community organizations. Now, the Elgin Police Department wants to help the man who spent so much of his life helping others.
The Elgin Police Department has organized a fundraiser from Linder and his family. It will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, at Danny’s On Douglas, 231 Douglas Ave., Elgin. The phone number is (847) 742-5400. For $20, guests can enjoy pizza and soft drinks.
For this Elgin Police-sponsored fundraiser, there are only two ways to donate: Come to Danny’s the night of the event, or mail a check to Elgin Police Chief Jeff Swoboda made out to Tom Linder in care of the Elgin Police Department, 151 Douglas Ave., Elgin IL 60120.
The family has also set up a donation page called Tom Linder’s Medical Fund.
“Your gift will truly make a difference in Tom’s journey back to full health,” the website says. “That is a ‘Sure Thing.’ Count on it! Words cannot express our heartfelt gratitude for your gift of the heart.”
If you know Tom, or if you just want to help, contact Swoboda at 847-289-2760 with any questions you may have about this event. The Elgin Police Department ensures residents that the funds received at Danny’s that night and those sent directly to Swoboda will make it to the Linder family.
