The National Weather Service has issued an urban and small-stream flood advisory for southern Kane County until 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014.

Thunderstorms that rolled through the area Thursday morning brought heavy rains, including 1.88 inches in St. Charles and 1.97 inches in Elburn.

Rainfall rates in the strongest storms were between 0.5 and 1 inch per hour, according to the NWS.

“Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause minor flooding to occur,” the advisory says.

Some of the locations that will experience flooding include include Aurora and Batavia in Kane County.

Excessive runoff from this storm will cause elevated levels on small creeks and streams, ponding of water on roads, urban areas and highways, underpasses and low-lying areas.

“Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway,” the NWS advises. “The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross safely.”

Keep an eye out for more flooding. The NWS forecast calls for showers and thundershowers for the next three days.
