Hey, Plato and Elgin Township! Assessment Changes Published Aug. 5

The 2014 assessment changes for Plato and Elgin Townships are being published Tuesday, Aug. 5, in The Elgin Courier-News.

After all revisions and corrections by each township assessor are applied, an equalization factor  is calculated for the township; each non-farm property in Plato Township was equalized with a factor of 0.9832, and each non-farm property in Elgin Township was equalized with a factor of 0.9743.

You also can read the assessment changes electronically on the Kane County Supervisor of Assessments webpage. Another excellent way to find out the information on your property is to do a property search on your local township assessor’s website. You usually can search simply by plugging in your address, but if you happen to have your pin or parcel code number handy, that can make the search easier.

You can visit the Plato Township database search or the Elgin Township property search by clicking the boldface links in this sentence. For other townships in Kane County, you can find a full directory of township assessors’ websites here.

To obtain complaint forms and a copy of the Rules and Procedures of the Kane County Board of Review, visit Kane County Assessments complaint page or call (630) 208-3818.

For Plato Township and Elgin Township folks, with the Aug. 5 publication, the clock starts ticking to formally protest the assessed value of your property. Residents from each township get 30 days from the publication date to file a complaint. Plato and Elgin township complaints must be filed by Sept. 4. No complaint for property in these townships can be accepted after that date.

The following townships are open for filing assessment complaints, and the following deadlines have been established for filing an assessment complaint:

  • Big Rock: Aug. 1
  • Virgil: Aug. 4
  • Dundee: Aug. 7
  • Rutland: Aug. 11
  • Sugar Grove: Aug. 14
  • Blackberry: Aug. 18
  • St. Charles: Aug. 25
  • Campton:  Aug. 28
  • Geneva: Aug. 28
  • Plato: Sept. 4
  • Elgin: Sept. 4
Again, no complaint for property in these townships can be accepted after these dates.
The final filing deadline for property in Hampshire Township has passed; by state law, the Board of Review can no longer accept assessment complaints from this township.
Still to come are assessment changes for Burlington, Kaneville, Batavia and Aurora townships. No filing deadline has been established for these townships.
