Kane County Recycling Coordinator Jennifer Jarland has been selected to represent Illinois on the National Recycling Coalition’s Recycling Organization Council.

Jarland has been a member of the Illinois Recycling Association since June of 2013 and was selected by her fellow board members to represent Illinois on the national council.

Jarland will attend the annual meetings of the NRC and the ROC from Sept. 15 to Sept. 17 at the national Resource Recycling Conference in New Orleans.

A seat at the table will allow Jarland to learn from fellow state recycling associations and inform IRA members of the work being done in the national and global arena and to share the work of the Illinois Recycling Association and Kane County on a national platform.

“This is a great opportunity to learn more about cutting-edge resource recovery, reuse and waste minimization programs being implemented around the nation,” Jarland said. “(I’ll also) represent Kane County and Illinois at the premier national recycling conference.”

Session topics at the conference will include corporate sustainability, national and global economics of recycling, education and outreach methods, public-private partnerships in recycling, maximizing resource recovery, reused material programs, sustainable purchasing, and extended producer responsibility.

Jarland said the exposure also will inform her of management of programs to better serve Kane County residents.

Jarland is the co-chair of the Illinois Carpet Recycling Working Group, and founding member of the Illinois Food Scrap Coalition.
