VIDEO: Larkin High School’s Aerial-View ‘LHS’ Will Be One for the 2015 Yearbook
Larkin High School seniors are going to have one spectacular memory for the 2015 yearbook.
Thanks to an original idea from Larkin High School teacher George Kalousek and the support of the senior class, the student body, the school staff, the Elgin Fire Department and Elginet Media, the senior class photo will include an aerial view of hundreds of people forming “LHS” and “2015” on a sports field that in letters and numbers that probably were big enough to be seen from outer space.
The entire school took to the field for the class picture, with the seniors are in white forming the “2015” and the rest of the school in royal blue, the text of the YouTube video says. You can see the results in the YouTube video attached to this article simply titled, “Larkin High School LHS with Students.”
“I think we made this something for the yearbook!” the text in the YouTube video says.
Dave Gathman of The Courier-News has an excellent video and article about the project.
The event is part of “Royal Power Week” during the first week of classes for the 2014-15 school year. According to Gathman’s article, no one recalls the school ever gathering the entire student body — in this case, more than 2,000 people — for a group portrait.
The spectacular aerial photo was made possible by a remote-controlled helicopter “piloted” by Bill O’Neill, who Gathman describes as a veteran of the electronics industry who also does freelance photography.
