Monday Heat Index Was Near 100

The National Weather Service -Chicago issued a Special Weather Statement for Monday, Aug. 25, 2014.

Very hot and humid conditions hit Kane County, with temperatures rising into the low 90s. The temperatures, combined with “a very muggy airmass with dewpoints in the 70s” resulted in afternoon heat index values at around 100 degrees, the NWS said.

These hot and humid conditions increase the risk of heat-related stress and illness, “particularly for the very young, the elderly and those participating in strenuous outdoor activities,” the report said. “Car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle.

“Beat the heat … Check the back seat.”
