One lane along a stretch of Galena Boulevard on the city of Aurora’s near East Side will be closed Friday, Aug. 22, through Friday, Sept. 5, as part of the city’s combined sewer overflow control project.
The south lane of Galena Boulevard will be closed between Lincoln Avenue and Fourth Street as crews work to install a series of rain gardens. The rain gardens are designed to divert rainwater and reduce the number of occasional sewage backups that can occur in homes and in the Fox River during heavy storms.
As a part of the project, Fourth Street will also be closed to through-traffic between Downer Place and Galena Boulevard. All access drives to businesses within in the work area will remain open.
Drivers should expect minor delays or detours, and are advised to slow down in the construction area and be alert for workers.
Questions can be directed to the city’s Customer Service Division at (630) 256-INFO (4636).
