Wanted: Literacy Volunteers — No experience needed

Know English? Yes? Then you can teach English to one of 40 people who are now waiting hopefully, even fervently for someone to tutor them in English.

If you are willing to tutor one hour per week in the cities of St. Charles, Geneva, Batavia or Elburn, Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley will prepare you, match you with an adult learner, and provide the support you need along the way.

A free four-session training workshop will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 9, 11, 16, and 18, at the St. Charles Public Library. You do not need to know a second language or have a teaching background to help. Students say that the best tutors are patient, listen well and give practical advice. Why not come and see if tutoring is for you?

To enroll or for more information, visit www.lvfv.org/events/trainingschedule or call Peg Coker at 630-584-4428. You can make a very real difference in another person’s life and likely obtain a tremendous personal benefit in the happiness department.
