Two horses were killed Friday after a barn caught fire on a farm in unincorporated Elgin.

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office reported in a Friday press release that sheriff’s deputies, Pingree Grove Fire Department personnel and several area fire departments reported to the scene of a barn fire around 2:40 p.m. Friday at 9N067 Corron Road in unincorporated Elgin.

There were three horses inside the barn at the time of the fire, the Sheriff’s Office reported. Two horses, named Ghost and Buddy, were unable to escape and died at the scene. One horse, Maverick, was able to escape.

There were no other animals in the barn at the time of the fire, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

No persons were injured as a result of the fire, but the barn fire was described as a “total loss.”

Emergency personnel were dispatched to the incident at approximately 2:40 p.m. and remained on scene until approximately 7:30 p.m.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
