Community Invited to Celebrate Sheriff’s Retirement With a Roast and Toast
“Roast him! Toast him!”
Plans already are being made to celebrate the retirement of Kane County Sheriff Pat Perez, who is leaving office in November after two terms as sheriff.
A flyer went out last week inviting members of the public to a celebration of Perez’ career, which will take place from 6 p.m.to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, at Piper’s Banquets, 1295 Butterfield Road, Aurora.
As an unusual and fun part of the festivities, there will be a roast from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by a program from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and a receiving line from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.
“Please come to CELEBRATE SHERIFF PEREZ, HIS distinguished CAREER, AND to wish him A WONDERFUL RETIREMENT,” the flyer says.
Farewells for Perez began as early as March, when Perez spoke before members of the Geneva and St. Charles chambers of commerce.
According to an article recapping that event, the Daily Herald said Perez’ accomplishments include the creation of the Sheriff’s Office website, the transition of the former Kane County Jail to the new facility at the Kane County Judicial Center and continued high-quality public service.
A new shooting range facility is expected to be opened prior to Perez’ retirement on Nov. 30, and a first look at the $1.8 million facility is expected this week. At a May groundbreaking ceremony for the Sheriff’s Office shooting range, Perez described the construction of the facility as “the period at the end of the sentence” of his long career with the Sheriff’s Office.
“(This facility) means that our people will be guaranteed the absolute best firearms and tactical training that we can provide — not just to qualify for the sake of qualification but for the tactical use of cover,” he said. “It’s important for me to know that we’re giving our officers the best opportunity to be trained for situations that may end up in the use of force with a firearm.”
For the Roast & Toast, hors d’oeuvres will be passed, and there will be a cash bar, according to the brochure. The price per person is $20, and RSVP will be greatly appreciated. For more information, contact Janet Ardelan at 630-208-2003.
