Documentary on Frank Vanderlip To Be Filmed This Weekend in Aurora
Vicki Mack, author of the biography of banking titan Frank A. Vanderlip and Dr. Elliott Haimoff, a California-based documentary producer, will be in Aurora Sept. 21-23, 2014, to begin filming the life story of Vanderlip, who was born in Aurora and started his climb to the top of the financial world as a machinist in an Aurora factory in the 1880s.
On Sunday, Sept. 21, Mack and Haimoff will speak at the Aurora Historical Society at the Pierce Art and History Center, 20 E. Downer, 60505. They will present the story of the farm boy in overalls who eventually shaped American financial policy, financed the Spanish-American War and helped to create the Federal Reserve Board. His theories of transparency and fairness to small investors were novel in his day and some historians feel many hardships and disasters could have been avoided had his philosophy taken better root.
The lecture is $5 per person ($3 for members). Reservations are requested: 630-906-0650.
Filming will take place throughout Aurora on Sept. 22 and 23 and will include interviews with local historians.
