Elgin Man Will Go to Prison for Sexually Assaulting Foster Child
An Elgin man will go to prison for sexually assaulting a foster child that was living with his family.
Juan C. Ramirez, 45, of the 100 block of Moseley Street, Elgin, on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014, agreed to a sentence of 9½ years in the Illinois Department of Corrections in exchange for a guilty plea to predatory criminal sexual assault, a Class X felony.
Circuit Judge Susan Clancy Boles accepted the plea.
In December 2011, Ramirez committed an act of sexual penetration with the victim at his Elgin home. The victim, a foster child living with Ramirez’s family, was younger than 12 years old at the time of the assault.
In addition to the prison term, Ramirez must register for life as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.
According to Illinois law, Ramirez must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence. He was given credit for at least 419 days served in the Kane County jail.
The case was prosecuted by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Reagan Pittman.
