Flash Flood Watch Issued For Wednesday; 3 Inches of Rain, 1-Inch Hail Possible
The National Weather Service Chicago has put a Flash Flood Watch into effect through Wednesday afternoon for Kane County and the surrounding area.
In northeast Illinois, the watch extends to Kane, Cook, DuPage, Grundy, Kendall, Lake, McHenry and Will counties.
The NWS says deepening low pressure will move northeast from Iowa to central Lake Michigan, dragging a strong cold front across the area Wednesday. A high level of moisture will bring showers and thunderstorms from the west, with as much as 2-and-a-half inches of rainfall expected across the area Wednesday morning.
Thunderstorms could lead to isolated totals of 3 to 5 inches of rain.
“Flash flooding may cause roads to be closed and impassible and cause rises on area rivers,” the NWS says.
The National Weather Service also has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Kane County and the area. The Wednesday storms could include:
- Hail to 1 inch in diameter.
- Wind gust of up to 60 mph.
- Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning.
- A small chance of an isolated tornado.
