Grace Period Voter Registration Starts Oct. 8, Goes Right Up to Election Day

Kane County Clerk Jack Cunningham is reminding Kane County residents about the change in the law for the Grace Period Voter Public Act 98-691.

Under the law, an unregistered, qualified voter is allowed to register right up until the time the polls close for the 2014 General Election. Voters can register at any permanent polling place established  for early voting.

To register and vote, a person must be a United States citizen, 18 years old on or before the date of the General Election, a resident of the precinct for 30 days prior to the election, and provide two forms of identification, one of which shows their current name and current address.

Grace-period voters must vote after their voter registration is processed.

The Kane County Clerk’s Voter Registration Office is located in Building B at the Kane County Government Center, 719 South Batavia Avenue (Route 31) in Geneva.

The Kane County Clerk’s Office will begin offering grace-period voter registration and voting on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014 through Oct. 17, 2014, with hours from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

In addition, the clerk has approved the following five permanent polling place locations and schedules to begin offering grace-period voter registration and Voting on Monday, Oct. 20,2014 for ONLY this November General Election:

(1) The Kane County Clerk’s Office* (Extended Wednesday hours to 8 p.m.), 719 S. Batavia Avenue (Rt.31), Geneva

(2) Kane County Branch Court* (Extended Wednesday hours to 8 p.m.), 530 S. Randall Road, St. Charles

(3) Elgin Township Office, 729 McLean Boulevard, Elgin

(4) Carpentersville Fire Station No. 3, 5000 Sleepy Hollow Road, Carpentersville

  • 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, to Friday, Oct. 24 (extended to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22)
  • 9 a.m. – noon Saturday, Oct. 25
  • 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26
  • 8:30 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, to Friday, Oct. 31 (extended to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29)
