Kane County Cougars Advance to Midwest League Championship
The Kane County Cougars won the Western Division Championship on Sunday and have a chance to make a little bit of Cubs franchise history in the coming days.
The Cougars took the division championship Sunday with a 4-2 win over the Cedar Rapids Kernals at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark and will advance to Midwest League finals. According to bleedcubbieblue.com, no Cubs affiliate has won the Midwest League since the Quad Cities Cubs did in 1979.
The Midwest League Championship Series will begin on Wednesday against the Lake County Captains. According to a story on the Cougars website, the Cougars host the first two games, starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, but Lake County will have the homefield advantage. The championship is a best-of-five series. The Lake County Captains are affiliated with the Cleveland Indians.
The Cougars have had an amazing 2014 season, with an overall record of 91-49. They swept both of their post-season series foes, defeating Wisconsin and Cedar Rapids.
