Marie Wilkinson Food Pantry Honors Community, Leaders Who Help to ‘Fill the Bowl’
Marie Wilkinson Food Pantry is recognizing the work of four community leaders and asking residents to join them during the month of September to take action on the devastating issue of hunger.
Hunger is a global problem, but it is a local problem, as well. Nearly 10 percent of the people in the western suburbs of Chicago are food insecure, and more than 16 percent of this population are children, food-pantry leaders said in a press release.
“It is our goal to help spread awareness for the individuals who are food deprived,” the pantry said. “This is the perfect opportunity to be a part of the month-long movement that has a real and lasting impact on the mission to end hunger. We all have a role to play in getting food to those in need, to put struggling families on the road to a healthy, hunger free lifestyle and to help them become self-sufficient.
“You can take action this September by volunteering, attending a MWFP event, making a donation, or organizing a food drive. We encourage you to participate in supporting Hunger Action Month by making a donation to us, or one of your local food pantries near you.”
In support of National Hunger Month, Marie Wilkinson Food Pantry invites you to its first “Fill the Bowl” and Spirit Award fundraiser any time from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Prisco Center, 150 W. Illinois St. in Aurora.
The event is taking place to raise awareness about hunger and to help our community with the rising demands of food. Your donations will help us provide food, health education and sustainable life skills to families in need. This is a groundbreaking open house event! Individuals, families and all groups are welcome.
The Spirit Award recognizes individuals who personifies Marie Wilkinson’s belief that it is a privilege to give a helping hand to people in need by giving their time, effort, expertise, concern and love to improve the quality of lives to those in need.
She believes there are people who demonstrate a willingness to get involved by reaching out to the less fortunate in the areas of Community Service, Civic Leadership, Education and Volunteerism that will help to promote, improve and give hope to enhance the lives of our neighbors.
