The press and Kane County dignitaries will get a sneak peek at the new regional training facility and indoor shooting range Thursday.

Kane County Sheriff Pat Perez and Kane County Board Chairman Chris Lauzen announced Tuesday that they will be hosting the grand opening at 9 a.m. Thursday Sept. 25.  The event will take place in the new facility located at the Sheriff’s Office on Route 38.

There will be a tour and a demonstration of the features of the new range — and Kane County Connects will attempt to get photos and video, so you can see inside.

Due to the location of the range — within the secured perimeter of the correctional center — the event won’t be open to the public.

The county broke ground on the project in early May. At that time, Kane County Sheriff Pat Perez said the regional training center and shooting range will provide services that Kane County presently is outsourcing. Among the features that will be built into the facility, designed by Aurora-based Cordogan Clark & Associates, will be the ability to pull a squad car into the shooting range to replicate situations officers encounter on the street.

“For the taxpayers, it’s a guarantee that the people serving and protecting them will be trained, not just minimally, not just adequately, but their training will be top-shelf,” he said at the groundbreaking in May. “And it’s as much for the protection of the public we protect as it is for the officers who serve.”

Immediately after the Thursday event, Pingree Grove Police Chief Carol Lusky and Sugar Grove Police Chief Pat Rollins will join Perez in announcing a new partnership with the villages of Sugar Grove and Pingree Grove to expand the Sheriff’s Office prescription drug drop off program.
