State Board Officially Confirms Fred Heid as District 300 Superintendent

The Board of Education for Community Unit School District 300 has officially confirmed Fred Heid as its superintendent.

The Illinois State Board of Education informed Heid late Thursday that it had completed its review of his application for superintendent certification, and has met all the criteria.

“The Board of Education congratulates Mr. Heid for receiving his superintendent certification,” Board President Anne Miller said. “This certification marks a significant step in our collective mission to continue moving District 300 forward.”

Heid, who has served as District 300’s chief executive officer since June 2, arrived to District 300 from Jacksonville, FL, where he worked as the chief academic officer for Duval County School System, which has a student enrollment of 124,000.

A District 300 press release said Heid already has started implementing plans and protocols in District 300 to foster the growth of the whole child, develop great teachers and leaders, generate efficient resource allocation and ensure every student is fully prepared for college or a career before graduation.

“I am excited that the licensure process is complete,” Heid said. “This was the final step that brings my transition to Illinois and District 300 to a close. I am thrilled to be here and look forward to my continued collaborations with such a dedicated team of educators and professionals.”

Heid, District 300’s first fully bilingual superintendent, received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of South Florida. He has finished his coursework for his doctorate from Capella University, based out of Minneapolis, MN, and is presently working on his dissertation, whereupon he will earn his PhD.

Before transitioning to District 300, Heid served as the Bureau Chief for School Improvement and Accountability for the Florida Department of Education and Principal of Orange County Public Schools. Heid began his education career in Sarasota County Public School as a science teacher in 1999.

Heid will celebrate his 20thwedding anniversary with his wife, Patti, in November. The two have a son who attends a District 300 elementary school.

District 300 will hold a reception in the near future to introduce Mr. Heid, his family and senior level staff to the community.
