From Elgin to Aurora, there are multiple ways to honor the memory of those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. Below are three events. If you have more to add, please comment on this page, post on the Kane County Connects Facebook page or email ricknagel23@gmail.com.

Aurora Fire Department to Host Sept. 11 Remembrance

In remembrance of the 13th anniversary of the Sept. 11 tragedy, the Aurora Fire Department will host a brief memorial ceremony at 8:45 a.m. tomorrow (Sept. 11, 2014) at the flag pole of the Central Fire Station, 75 N. Broadway.

The ceremony will honor the first responders and civilians who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, as well as those who have since given their lives to ensure our safety and freedom.

All are welcome to attend.

Location: Aurora, Illinois

Advocate Sherman to Host 9/11 Reflection and Remembrance

The Department of Mission and Spiritual Care at Advocate Sherman Hospital will present a Reflection and Remembrance ceremony in the Healing Garden of its Elgin campus on Thursday.

On the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, 19 terrorists hijacked four commercial airplanes, crashing two into the towers of the World Trade Center complex and a third into the Pentagon in Arlington, Va. The fourth hijacked plane crashed into an empty field in western Pennsylvania about 20 minutes by air from Washington, DC.

The attacks killed nearly 3,000 people from 93 nations.

The ceremony will take place in the Healing Garden (near the Heart and Vascular Center) at the hospital, located at 1425 N. Randall Road.

The event is free and open to the public.
