Where to Drop Off Old Prescriptions on National Drug Take-Back Day
The Kane County Coroner’s Office announced Wednesday that it will join other Kane County law-enforcement agencies in National Drug Take-Back Program from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27. A list of Kane County locations is provided below. You can also search for the nearest location on the U.S. Department of Justice website.
Coroner Rob Russell stated that the Coroner’s Office became a DEA collection site for disposal of prescription drugs last April.
“Proper prescription drug disposal is important because studies have shown that prescription drug abuse promotes heroin use and addiction,” the Coroner’s Office press release said. “Many prescriptions, such as painkillers, have frequently been stolen from medicine cabinets of homes, because people who no longer need them are unaware of an outlet to get rid of them properly.”
“The office already takes medicines for the family of deceased residents, so it makes sense for us to continue this public service for the living. We will take any medication from anywhere in the county,” Russell said.
The Coroner’s Office accepts prescription drugs and sharps from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at Building E at the Kane County Government Center in Geneva.
The Kane County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday that it will partner with Pingree Grove and Sugar Grove police departments to expand its prescription-drug drop-off program.
