2nd to Last Chance to Enjoy Seed Harvest — This One’s in Elburn
The Kane County Forest Preserve District’s seed harvest season is wrapping up, and the Wednesday, Oct. 29, volunteer effort is going to be the second-to-last harvest of the year.
Volunteers harvest seed from 10 a.m. to noon each week.
“This coming Wednesday we will be collecting seed at Blackberry Maples in Elburn,”Volunteer Coordinator Robb Cleave said. “It is a great way to explore new preserves, learn about plants and how to identify them and meet some fun people. For a map and address please follow this link.
Please come prepared for the weather and with a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated. The Kane County Forest Presercve District will provide all the snacks, drinks, tools and other supplies.
This week’s harvest will focus on Blackberry Maples, Elm Leafed Goldenrod and Side Flowering Aster.
Save the Date
As the seed harvest season comes to an end, it is time to put the Forest Preserve District’s annual Seed Mixing / Potluck event on your calendar. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at Aurora West Forest Preserve in Aurora, volunteers and Forest Preserve experts will be making ecosystem specific mixes in a seed barn and then wrapping up the season with a potluck at the farmhouse at Aurora West.
“Please join us for a great end of the year event and make sure to bring a dish to pass!” Cleave said.
