The Roosevelt-Aurora American Legion Post 84 is partnering with the American Legion Department of Illinois, the 2^nd Division and the 11^th District with the help of the American Legion National organization to conduct a membership drive. Individuals from these organizations will be contacting expired members, and all other veterans about membership in the local American Legion.

Currently, Post 84 has about 300 members, but in its peak had more than 1,000 members.

“We are excited to be working with the American Legion Department of Illinois and the National Organization to help increase our membership,” stated Commander Mike Eckburg.

Members from the American Legion Department of Illinois are arriving on Wednesday, Oct. 8, and are inviting wartime veterans to attend an open house event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Oct. 9 and Oct. 10, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Comfort Suites, 111 N. Broadway, Aurora.

The State Service officer will also be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday for all area veterans with claims or other veteran-related questions.

The Roosevelt-Aurora American Legion Post 84 was founded in 1919, and is one of the oldest posts in the state of Illinois. Its name is in memory of Quentin Roosevelt, the youngest son of President Theodore Roosevelt, who was killed in World War I in aerial combat over France on Bastille Day, July 14, 1918.
