A 64-year-old Sandwich resident was killed early Tuesday in a single-vehicle crash on Granart Road south of Jericho Road in unincorporated Big Rock Township.

According to a Kane County Sheriff’s Office press release issued Tuesday night, the initial investigation indicates that a Mitsubishi Eclipse was traveling north on Granart Road at a high rate of speed at around 8:30 a.m. when it “left the road on the west side of Granart and flipped several times.”

The driver, identified as Gregory G. Oakes, 64, of the 400 block of Meadowlark Circle in Sandwich, was the sole occupant and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
