Health Department: Local Resources, Support Groups for Breast Cancer
The Kane County Health Department is reminding residents that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, the best way to fight breast cancer is to have a plan that helps you detect the disease in its early stages. Create your Early Detection Plan to receive reminders to do breast self-exams, and schedule your clinical breast exams and mammograms based on your age and health history.
1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime
When breast cancer is detected early (localized stage), the 5-year survival rate is 98%
One in eight American women and one in 1,000 American men are battling breast cancer today. It’s estimated that more than 2 million people are diagnosed with breast cancer and fight for their lives each year.
Breast cancer is difficult to face alone—for both patients and their loved ones. To help in the battle, there are a number of local resources and support groups.
