El Futuro 2, a documentary highlighting five of Aurora’s emerging Latino leaders that premiered the community at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at the Copley Theatre, 8 E. Galena Boulevard, now can be seen on YouTube.

The 30-minute documentary is the second in a series directed by Aurora Community Television intern Alexander Perez in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, 2014. El Futuro 2 shares the stories of five achievers in their own words – what they do, why they do it, and their hopes and dreams for the future.

“It is an honor to be able to share the stories of my peers. Growing up in Aurora has provided us with so many opportunities, and we want to share that with the world,” said Perez, a senior majoring in television production at Columbia College Chicago, who also produced the highly-regarded El Futuro 1 documentary last year that can be viewed in its entirety by clicking here. This second installment in the series brings the same level of inspiration from the voices of five more dedicated and determined young adults who all graduated from Aurora high schools and matriculated to colleges and universities throughout the country:

David Dominguez is a 2012 graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago who is now pursuing a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree at the UIC College of Dentistry.

Annabel Gonzalez will graduate in December from Aurora University with dual degrees in Finance and Business Administration.

Cynthia Gonzalez graduated from Aurora University last May with dual degrees in Communications and Spanish.

Esteban Roman graduated from the University of Tampa in 2013 with a degree in Sports Management and is now pursuing a master’s in Kinesiology and Sports Management at Saint Mary’s College of California.

Hector Velazquez is a senior at Aurora University majoring in Political Science who will graduate in May 2015.

Hosted, once again, by Meliton Chaidez, a junior at West Aurora High School and a national speech competition finalist, the El Futuro 2 Community Premiere is free and open to the public.
