An Aurora man has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a teenager he knew.

Ubaldo Santiago, 32, of the 800 block of Wood Street, Aurora, today agreed to a sentence of five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections in exchange for a guilty plea to aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony.

Associate Judge Clint Hull accepted the plea.

On Sept. 1, 2013, Santiago had sexual contact with the victim, whom he knew. The victim was younger than 17 at the time. The victim later told a family member about the incident. The family member called police. When questioned, Santiago acknowledged what he had done.

In addition to the prison term, Santiago must register for life as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.

According to Illinois law, Santiago is eligible for day-for-day credit. He was given credit for at least 418 days served in the Kane County jail.

The case was prosecuted by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Andrew Whitfield.
