It is a beautiful time to enjoy a brisk fall morning in the Kane County forest preserves, and there are few better ways to do it than by joining the Kane County seed harvest.

Forest Preserve Volunteer Coordinator Robb Cleave has announced that he and community volunteers will be collecting seed at Burlington Prairie Forest Preserve in Burlington.

“We will be meeting at the South parking lot off of Engel Road,” Cleave said. “It is a great way to explore new preserves, learn about plants and how to identify them and meet some fun people.”

As always, volunteers should come prepared for the weather and with a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated. The Forest Preserve District will provide all the snacks, drinks, tools and other supplies.

This week’s focus will be to harvest one species: Cream Gentian.

“Just to help everyone become better at recognizing plants please feel free to study up on next week’s target species,” Cleave said.
