4 Kane County Teams Make 2nd Round Football Playoffs; Geneva Is Last Standing
Four football teams from Kane County made the second round of the Illinois High School Association football playoffs, and while all four played host Saturday, only one Kane County team was left standing.
In Class 8A (that’s the big-enrollment schools, for those who aren’t really into high school sports), the first-seeded Waubonsie Valley Warriors (Aurora) lost 24-14 to No. 4-ranked Naperville Central Saturday at WV’s Dick Kerner Stadium.
In Class 7A, St. Charles North (No. 9) hosted Cary-Grove (No. 1) at 2 p.m. Saturday at St Charles North Stadium. The North Stars (now 8-3) had their hands full against the Trojans, that kept their record perfect this season (now 11-0) with 25-14 win at St. Charles. Next week Cary-Grove will host …
Also in Class 7A, the Geneva Vikings (No. 4) held on to defeat Rockton Hononegah (No. 5) 26-20 Saturday at Burgess Field. This Vikings’ record improved to 10-1.
In Class 4A, Elgin St. Edward hosted Coal Cit and lost 25-20 Saturday at Greg True Field in Elgin. The Green Wave was seeded second in Class 4A, but finished the season with a record of 10-1.
