Hundreds of people attended the Veterans Day parade and ceremonies Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2014, in downtown Aurora, “Honoring All Who Served.”

Guest speaker Erica Borggren — acting Illinois transportation secretary, former director of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs and former senior staff member under Gen. David Petraeus during his time as commander general in Iraq — talked about the importance of “demystifying” veterans, helping them to talk about their experiences and share the knowledge they have gained through active duty.

Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner provided opening remarks, followed by a roll call of deceased veterans from Roosevelt-Aurora American Legion Past #84, Aurora AMVETS Post #103, Waidley VFW Post #468, the Fox Valley Marines and the Fox Valley Veterans Breakfast Club. There ceremony concluded with a military rifle salute, the playing of Taps and a performance of God Bless America by Tony Martinez, district spokesman for the West Aurora School District.
