Did You Know That Milk Cartons Are Recyclable?

All of your favorite food and beverage cartons can live on, long after their contents are gone. This includes cartons you use every day — milk, orange juice, or creamer cartons that go into the refrigerator, along with non-refrigerated cartons like children’s juice boxes, soup broth, soy milk, or protein drinks.

By recycling cartons, you give them a new future as paper towels, napkins, and even building materials. It’s easy, just put your clean, empty cartons into your recycling cart.

“Waste has no place in our county,” said Jennifer Jarland, Kane County recycling coordinator. “Right now, Kane County residents recycle and/or compost approximately 38 percent of the total waste, diverting it from the landfill. But we can do better. Too many recyclable cartons are still going to our landfills. By recycling cartons, you help your city save money, and help the environment.”

Recycled paper production creates 74 percent less air pollution than non-recycled paper.

“It’s easy to make a difference — just put your clean, empty cartons in your recycling cart,” Jarland said. “Every carton has a future. Don’t throw it away. Recycle your cartons today!”
