Kane County, Fire Responders Rescue Fawn Trapped on Ice

Thanks to some alert and caring residents, personnel from the Fox River and Countryside Fire/Rescue District and the Kane County Sheriff’s Office and an assist by Kane County Animal Control, a fawn trapped on an icy lake Friday morning in Campton Hills is back in the woods, safe and sound.

According to reports on the Kane County Animal Control Facebook Page, the Kane County Chronicle, Northern Illinois Fireground Facebook page, the Fox River and Countryside Fire/Rescue District Facebook Page and others, the fawn ventured onto the ice and couldn’t get back to shore.

Apparently, the fawn — which Kane County Animal Control Administrator Brett Youngsteadt described as a female about a year old — couldn’t stand because of the slippery surface and became exhausted.

Rescuers wearing ice-rescue suits used an inflatable boat to transport the fawn back to shore.
