A routine traffic stop Wednesday in the Huntley area resulted in the Kane County Sheriff’s Office seizure of more than 200 grams of heroin and the arrest of a 34-year-old Chicago man, a Sheriff’s Office press release said Thursday.

At around 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, sheriff’s deputies stopped a Toyota after deputies saw the driver make an improper lane change as it was traveling west on Interstate 90 near Powers Road.

As the deputy was speaking to the driver he detected an odor of burnt cannabis coming from inside the vehicle, the Sheriff’s Office press release said. The deputy searched the vehicle and located about 213 grams of heroin with an estimated street value of more $20,000.

The driver of the vehicle, Sershawn Nicholson, 34, of the 2000 block of West 65th St., Chicago, was taken into custody and transported to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.

The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized the following charges against Nicholson:

  • Unlawful Possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver, a Class X felony.
  • Unlawful possession of a controlled substance, a Class 1 felony.

Nicholson is being held at the Kane County Adult Justice Center. His bond is set at $300,000.

The charges against Nicholson are not proof of guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
