Photovoice: Help Us See What a Healthy Kane County Looks Like
The Kane County Health Department is asking you to show us what good health looks like in Kane County.
Through a new initiative called “Photovoice: Capturing a Healthy Kane County,” interns at the Health Department are putting together a collection of photographs that show what Kane County residents view as healthy as well as what the Health Department can do to make Kane County a better, safer place to live.
“With this project we are trying to encourage people to communicate their views of Kane County through photographs by posting them to our Facebook page,” said Kane County Health Department intern Ewa Krawczyk. “It is a really simple and fun project, and the pictures can be submitted by anyone.”
The Health Department is looking for photographs that show “things that (residents) would want to change or add, as well as some positive things that we already have in Kane County,” Krawczyk said.
Examples include existing community gardens and health fairs, or “areas where you think we need new bike trails, more parks or water fountains.”
“It is an awesome project because it allows us to communicate with not only the adults in the community but also the children,” Krawczyk said.
The Health Department is hoping people will share the invitation with as many schools and organizations as possible. Krawczyk said participating in the Photovoice campaign might make a great classroom project for students at any grade level or a terrific way for clubs and organizations to encourage community service.
“If you have any more questions, please contact me or visit our Facebook page – Photovoice: Capturing a Healthy Kane County,” Krawczyk said.
For anyone who wants to participate but does not have a Facebook account, pictures can be emailed directly to Krawczyk at krawczykewa@co.kane.il.us.
