St. Charles Township Man Charged With Massive, Indoor Cannabis-Grow Operation
A 44-year-old St. Charles Township man is facing multiple felony charges after Kane County sheriff’s detectives seized 463 live cannabis plants and more than 6,000 grams of packaged cannabis from his Mallard Lake Road home.
According to a Friday press release, members of the Kane County Sheriff’s Office Special Operation Unit executed a search warrant Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the home of David Robbins, 38W501 Mallard Lake Road in unincorporated St. Charles Township.
A search of the residence revealed a large-scale, indoor cannabis-grow operation located in the garage, basement and main floor of the residence.
The estimated street value of the cannabis and actual grow operation itself is about $500,000, the press release said.
Detectives also located two handguns and one rifle in the house. During the investigation, it was learned that Robbins has an active order of protection against him. A stipulation in the order is that he was to turn over any and all guns to his local police department.
The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized the following charges against Robbins:
- Manufacture/delivery of cannabis more than 5,000 grams, a Class X felony.
- Possession of cannabis more than 5,000 grams, a Class 1 felony.
- Production of cannabis plants more the 200, a Class 1 felony.
- Violation of an order of protection, a Class A misdemeanor.
Robbins is being held at the Kane County Adult Justice Center on $150,000 bond.
The charges against Robbins are not proof of guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
