ASK MR./MS. KANE COUNTY PERSON: ‘What’s Up With Tanner Road?’
It’s time once again for Ask Mr./Ms. Kane County Person, the expert who answers frequently asked questions about Kane County government but mostly transportation.
Our first and only question comes from alert reader Ellen J. Maglio, who asks …
Good Morning (Mr./Ms. Kane County Person),
When will the bridge project on Tanner Road be completed? You had posted in “the connect” that it would be done in November, but it’s still closed – would you update, please?
Our answer comes from alert Kane County Division of Transportation Chief of Construction David Boesch.
(Mr./Ms. Kane County Person) / Ellen,
Thank you for your concern about the Tanner Road project.
The county is as concerned as you, if not more so, to open Tanner Road again. Our staff has been working diligently with the contractor to keep the project moving and to deliver the job, despite the many obstacles the weather has thrown at us on this open-field site.
This past cold-weather blast could not have hit the project at a worse time as we were erecting structural steel and doing a lot of hand work assembly, which was hampered by the severe cold. Assembling freezing-cold metal with thin gloves or bare hands is a very slow and painful exercise, which caused the diehard crews a lot of grief and cost the project a lot of time.
We are anticipating a mid-December completion, weather permitting. The current two-week weather forecast gives us hope that we can make up the time we lost with the cold snap.
So there you have it: mid-December completion, weather permitting.
Thank you both for the update information. I look forward to its completion.
Best Regards,
Ellen
