The National Weather Service Chicago issued a special weather statement for Kane County and the surrounding area, starting around 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, suggesting that the Monday-morning commute could be a bit of a nightmare.

A weather disturbance is expected to induce a quick moving band of wintry precipitation, which will move across northern Illinois and Northwestern Indiana early Monday morning. The band of precipitation could being as a mix of sleet and freezing rain just prior to daybreak and transitioning quickly to snow and sleet.

The snow and sleet is expected to be out of the area my mid to late Monday morning, the Weather Service is concerned that it could fall at a moderate or heavy rate, especially north of Interstate 80, resulting in accumulations of up to an inch and making travel hazardous.

Conditions will improve by midday, as temperatures warm above freezing and the heavy precipitation ends.
