Carpentersville Man Goes to Prison for Assaulting Child He Knew
- Edtior’s Note: The following is a press release from the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office
A Carpentersville man will go to prison for sexually assaulting a young child he knew.
Sergio Tinajero, 54, of the 0-99 block of Robin Road, Carpentersville, was convicted today by a Kane County jury of four counts of predatory sexual assault of a child, each a Class X felony, and six counts of aggravated sexual abuse, each a Class 2 felony.
The jury deliberated for about 2½ hours before it reached the verdict.
During the trial, prosecutors presented evidence that multiple times between Sept. 11, 2009, and Sept. 6, 2012, Tinajero had sexual contact and committed acts of sexual penetration with a young child he knew. The victim was younger than 13 years old at the time of the acts. The contact took place at Tinajero’s residence.
A school official heard the victim talking to a friend about the assaults and called the Illinois Department of Child and Family Services, as required of a mandated reporter.
Circuit Judge Susan Clancy Boles set Tinajero’s next court appearance for 1:30 p.m. Feb. 5, 2015, for motions and sentencing. Tinajero faces a sentence of between 27 and 127 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
In addition, Tinajero must register for life as a sex offender in accordance with the Illinois Sex Offender Registration Act.
Tinajero had been free on $15,000 bond. Bond was revoked upon conviction and Tinajero was taken into custody at the Kane County jail.
“Our thanks to the school counselor who promptly reported this crime to DCFS as required of a mandated reporter,” Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon said. “Thanks also to Kane County Assistant State’s Attorneys Lori Schmidt and Reagan Pittman of the Kane County Child Advocacy Center, and CAC Investigator Tim Martin for their fine work in ensuring this victim had a voice in court.”
