The Church Road Bridge carrying traffic over the Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88) in Aurora has reopened after being reconstructed as part of the Illinois Tollway’s 15-year, $12 billion capital program, “Move Illinois: The Illinois Tollway Driving the Future.”

According to a Monday, Dec. 15, press release from the Illinois Tollway, work began in late August to remove the existing Church Road Bridge and replace it with a new bridge featuring a reinforced concrete deck on precast concrete beams.

The new bridge has been widened and the height increased to meet current design standards.

Construction also included improvements to portions of Church Road on either side of the bridge. Up to 7,300 vehicles use this stretch of roadway daily.

The bridge reconstruction was coordinated with the Illinois Department of Transportation, the
city of Aurora and the village of North Aurora, as well as Aurora Township and local police and
fire departments.
