Aurora police have secured charges through the Kane County State’s Attorney on three men in connection with a string of armed robberies that occurred in late October.

Martell White, 25, of the 15000 block of Madison Ave., Dolton; Charles Campbell, 27, of the 1500 block of North Loral Ave., Chicago; and Derrick Glasper, 27, of the 1000 block of North 23^rd Ave., Bellwood, are all charged with three counts of Class-X Armed Robbery.

The charges stem from the Oct. 28 armed robbery of the Payday Loan Store in the 900 block of East New York St.; and the Oct. 30 armed robberies of the Auto Zone in the 1000 block of East Galena Boulevard, and Marathon Gas Station in the 1700 block of North Farnsworth Avenue.

Undisclosed amounts of cash were taken from all three businesses.

The three men are currently in the Cook County Jail on unrelated charges.

In the three Aurora robberies, the victims had their wrists bound by zip ties allegedly used by the three suspects after they demanded money at gunpoint during the course of the crimes. Charging documents indicate that police established the trio as suspects after a fingerprint was lifted from a zip tie used in the Marathon robbery that matched Martell White.

Police were also able to locate surveillance video from a business that neighbors the Auto Zone that showed three men matching the descriptions of White, Campbell, and Glasper, making their getaways in a white, smaller-sized SUV.

During the continuing investigation, Aurora Police Detectives learned that White and Charles Campbell were arrested by Chicago Police on November 4 for armed robbery and were allegedly in a white Nissan Rouge SUV that was used in the commission of the crime. Detectives also learned that the same SUV committed a toll violation on the eastbound Farnsworth Avenue ramp at I-88 within a few minutes of the Marathon robbery.

As the investigation progressed, police received information from an anonymous tipster who recognized Glasper on the website of a local media outlet (The Beacon News) from photos of the Marathon robbery that were released by police. Glasper had likewise been arrested by Chicago Police on Nov. 18 on a weapons charge.

Police were able to secure charges after talking with all three individuals and the victims of the crimes. Detectives say that further charges are possible in the continuing investigation, and the fact that Aurora businesses were targeted appears to be completely random by the defendants. No one was injured in any of the Aurora robberies.

Bond hearings for the three in Kane County are pending.

The charges against the three individuals are not proof of guilt. They are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
