Forest Preserve District Invites 3- Through 5-Year-Olds to Explore Nature
Registration is now open for winter nature programs from the Forest Preserve District of Kane County, including popular programs for preschool-aged children.
During the “Nature Tykes” program series, 3-year-olds explore the natural world through a variety of activities with their parent or caregiver. The 45-minute sessions include a combination of stories, nature hikes, songs, games and crafts. A parent or caregiver must accompany each child. “Nature Tykes” programs run from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at Creek Bend Nature Center, within LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve. Registration is $5 per child, per session.
For 4- to 5-year-olds, “Little Naturalists” is an hour-long session where kids discover the wonders of nature through a variety of activities including stories, nature hikes, songs, games and crafts led by Forest Preserve District naturalists. This program is a “drop-off” one. Parents, caregivers and siblings may enjoy the trails of LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve, or wait inside the nature center, during the program. “Little Naturalists” programs run from 1-2 p.m. at Creek Bend Nature Center. Registration is $5 per child, per session.
Themes and dates for the winter series of both programs include: “Snowflake Surprise!” on Thursday, Jan. 15; “Sleepy Groundhogs” on Thursday, Feb. 19 and “In Like a Lion, Out Like a Lamb” on Thursday, March 19.
