How to Find Hidden Wildlife at Binnie Forest Preserve
Come out to Binnie Forest Preserve for a guided hike to look for animal signs, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27 in West Dundee.
At this free, nature program, participants will learn about the habits and behaviors of native wildlife by the signs they leave. This naturalist–guided event will help participants understand that every hike — be it a backyard stroll or an expedition through one of the forest preserves — is packed with excitement and organic activity. The animals that exist all around us may not always be in plain sight, but they leave behind a myriad of fascinating clues to discover!
You will likely encounter the footprints of mammals such as deer, coyote, squirrel, as well as see signs of deer browse, scat, and tree markings. There’s no way to know exactly what you’ll come across, but that is part of the fun.

About Binnie Forest Preserve
The Kane County Forest Preserve District purchased 119 acres for this preserve in 1969 to preserve the wetlands here. Additional acquisitions in 2002 have expanded the preserve. A Dundee Township open space addition next to the forest preserve has augmented the natural features of the area.
The wetland pockets here form the headwaters of the Kishwaukee River, which flows from the northern border of Binnie Forest Preserve.
Visitors enjoy bird watching and wildlife observation from a network of mowed trails. A large picnic shelter and play field is popular with large groups.
