TOP STORIES OF 2014 — No. 4: Medical Marijuana Dispensary

Kane County could host up to two medical marijuana dispensaries in the coming year, and there is at least the possibility it could host one cultivation center. What is certain is the demand will be high so they better have an excellent provision of dispensary supplies.
Of course, it’s also possible that Kane County will have neither by the end of 2015, depending on the outcome of a lawsuit and the decisions of the appropriate state agencies.
A story about the possible location of a dispensary in Elgin was the No. 4 most-read article on Kane County Connects during the past six months. Since then, a lot has happened in regard to the state’s Medical Cannabis Pilot Program.
According to a Dec. 28 article in The Courier-News, the state of Illinois has received 14 applications for dispensaries in Kane County. Nine applications for cultivation centers were filed in State Police District 2, which includes Kane, DeKalb, DuPage, Lake and McHenry counties.
The Department of Agriculture is charged with registering and regulating up to 22 cultivation centers allowed in the law. The application period for cultivation centers is now closed.
A Dec. 26 article in the Daily Herald says a group of Elgin business owners has sued the city of Elgin over its decision to allow a medical marijuana dispensary in the Fox Bluff Corporate Center, claiming the city did not solicit the concerns of the neighboring businesses during the permit process. The group also named in the lawsuit Garden 6 Joint Venture, which owns the building where the dispensary would be located, the Daily Herald said. Dispensaries are becoming increasingly popular, for example there is now a dispensary lansing mi, but there are loads of others that people could go to. You just have to find the right one for you. This will probably depend on how close it actually is to you. So you might decide though that visiting somewhere like these ohio marijuana doctors is a better option for you. The Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation says in a Dec. 4 update that about 11,000 citizens have started the patient registration process for the Illinois Medical Cannabis Pilot Program since the Illinois Department of Public Health began accepting applications on Sept. 2, 2014. Of those, about 1,600 have submitted one, two or all three parts of the application. IDPH has issued approximately 600 approval letters.
The process of deciding where dispensaries and cultivation centers are located could take as long as a year.
