Armed Man Caught in Indiana After Delnor Hospital Lockdown
A Campton Hills man has been taken into custody in Indiana and now faces several felony charges in connection with an alleged Tuesday, Jan. 27, attack of a relative at Delnor Hospital.
Justin B. Patzer, 31, has been charged with felony domestic battery, domestic battery and aggravated assault. He was taken into custody at 8:45 p.m. by the Hammond Police Department after Geneva police secured charges for an arrest warrant. During the investigation, Geneva police advised Hammond authorities of the possibility of Patzer being in Indiana.
Patzer will be taken to the Lake County Sheriff’s Department in Crown Point, IN, today (Wednesday, Jan. 28) for an extradition hearing.
According to a number of news media reports attacked a relative in a dispute over a vehicle.
According to reports from the city of Geneva, the hospital campus at 300 Randall Road was locked down around 10 a.m. Tuesday after a man entered with a gun. Williamsburg and Heartland elementary schools were put in soft lockdown, but those lockdowns were lifted at around 11:30 a.m.
The lockdown at the hospital was lifted at around 12:07 p.m.
The Geneva Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in looking for an armed man in connection with the incident.
The man was identified as Justin B. Patzer, 31, of Campton Hills. He is described as 5 feet, 9 inches tall, 250 pounds, with closely shaved brown hair and blue eyes. Both his eyes were blackened “from apparently being in a fight,” according to the report.
He was wearing a grayish/green shirt and blue jeans.
Patzer was believed to have left Delnor Hospital around 9:45 a.m. in a red 2004 Dodge Caravan with license plate P769405. The minivan has damage to the front passenger side, the report said.
Police believe the man is armed with a knife and is considered dangerous.
Anyone who sees a man or minivan matching this description should call 911 immediately. “Do not approach him,” the report said.
Patzer is wanted on warrants for disorderly conduct, battery, aggravated assault and leaving the scene of an accident, all related to this morning’s incident.
More information should be released this afternoon, the report said.
