Business Trends: Winter Farmer’s Market Moving Inside Popular Batavia Restaurant
With the success of the Batavia Farmers’ Market on River St., Batavia MainStreet sought out a way to continue the season for local farmers, vendors and patrons. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Saturday, Jan. 10, through May 23, downtown Batavia will have its own Winter Farmers’ Market. Thanks to Wendy and Gaetano DiBenedetto, owners of Gaetano’s Batavia on 15 E. Wilson St., the Winter Farmers’ Market will be located inside their restaurant.
“Our Farmers’ Market vendors have asked every year if we could do a Winter Market,” said Joi Cuartero, executive director of Batavia MainStreet. “Unfortunately, we never had an indoor location that could host several vendors at a time. Then, Gaetano and Wendy approached us about using their space!”
The market will be cozy, as space is limited, and will start off with around eight to 10 vendors selling various meats, baked goods, EVOO and balsamics, eggs, organic breads, honey, micro greens and hydroponic herbs, and even treats for man’s best friend.
“We are excited to bring a Winter Farmers’ Market to the community,” said Jamie Saam, on the board of Batavia MainStreet, and occasional market manager, “As a regular at the Farmers’ Market, I cannot wait to be able to purchase some of these items year round.”
