How Can We Build Nature Into Our Cities? Free Movie, Seminar Feb. 7

Batavia’s 7th annual Green Night Out at the Movies will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7. The Batavia Environmental Commission, with the support of the Batavia Park District, provides an evening of free entertainment: a green-themed movie, free popcorn and drink (for those who bring a reusable cup and bowl) and a lively discussion following the movie.

The Expo opens at 6:15 p.m. Feb. 7 and the movie starts at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Batavia City Hall Council chambers, 100 N. Island Center, Batavia.

The Nature of Cities is a thought-provoking documentary that joins Professor Timothy Beatley as he explores different urban projects around the world. The film looks at how we can make better cities, better workplaces and better schools by integrating nature into urban environments. See how there are numerous opportunities for building nature into our living spaces, with many of these prospects already existing in our back yards.

Michelle Hickey of the Resiliency Institute will be the guest speaker following the movie. The Resiliency Institute is a non-profit organization using permaculture education and design to transform the suburbs into resilient communities prepared for economic, social and environmental change.
