Indiana Woman Gets 4-Year Sentence for Stealing $163K From Kane County Law Firm
An Indiana woman is headed to prison and will repay the $163,000 she stole over seven months from the Kane County law firm that employed her.
Jordan E. Terry, 48, of the 7900 block of Tippecanoe Drive, Walkerton, Ind., was sentenced today (Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015) by Circuit Judge Clint Hull to four years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. In addition, Terry was ordered to repay the stolen money beginning when she is released from prison.
On Sept. 11, 2014, Terry pleaded guilty to one count of theft, a Class 1 felony. Judge Hull accepted the plea and set the sentencing hearing for today.
According to evidence presented in court, between January 2011 and August 2011, Terry stole $163,373.86 from the Van Der Snick Law Firm. Terry used the money to make payments on her personal credit card bill.
Once she is released from prison, Terry is to report back to court to begin a plan for restitution to the victim.
According to Illinois law, Terry is eligible for day-for-day sentencing. She receives credit for at least one day served in the Kane County jail.
The case was prosecuted by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Nicholas Gaeke.
