Poll: OK, Kane County, What Film Should Win Best Picture?
I saw a great Facebook post over the weekend by Daily Herald Opinion Editor Jim Slusher about the hype over and fascination with Birdman, the Academy-Award-nominated film starring Michael Keaton, which Slusher eloquently described as “an insultingly pretentious waste of 90 minutes.”
Slusher is great, by the way, if you haven’t read his editorials or checked out the DH opinions pages — principled and fair and really a terrific writer. His Facebook post made me wonder (a) if I really wanted to shell out $8 to see Birdman, which probably I would have, because I like Michael Keaton, and (b) what folks in Kane County think about this year’s Academy-Award-nominated films? After all, what ranks high in Hollywood is not always what ranks high in the heartland of America.
So, I thought I’d ask.
Please take a minute to make your pick for best picture in the reader poll embedded above. We’ll publish the results a little later and compare them to the expert predictions as well as the eventual winner.
The 2015 Oscars (hosted by Neil Patrick Harris) are televised on Feb. 22 on ABC, so we’ve got a little time.
